Alice Koskas is the founder and owner of The Lounge Spa. In 2005, Koskas opened the spa with over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry. Koskas’ calling, literally, was skin deep. For years she suffered from acne and wanted to learn more about skin care and became an esthetician. By utilizing her new-found knowledge, she vowed to help others who suffered from acne, as she had. For over 17 years, Koskas worked for some of the most highly respected companies in the skin care industry. She began her esthetician career at Leonard Drake, the world-renowned Dermalogica’s flagship store as there lead esthetician. Koskas’ assisted the company by opening Dermalogica’s second location in Beverly Hills, CA. and soon was promoted as the spa manager of its third location in Encino, CA. After six years of working for Dermalogica, Koskas left the company to continue her education at the Institute of Psycho Structural Balance. There she studied anatomy and massage. Afterwards, she worked as an independent contractor at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Marina del Rey, CA. where she learned the meaning of customer service and proper etiquette. Seeking a position that provided stability professionally and personally, she went on to work for Murad Skin Research as lead massage therapist and esthetician for their medical spa in El Segundo, CA. Two years later, she was promoted to education and events coordinator, responsible for hands-on esthetic training and coordination of all trade shows for accounts, such as The Four Seasons Hotel New York, Sephora and Pure Beauty. Having worked with one of the skin and body care industry’s leading companies, Koskas yearned to utilize her business knowledge and customer service expertise in a spa facility. After five years with Murad, Koskas became a spa director for Trilogy Spa in Hermosa Beach, CA. There she managed a spa with over 55 staff members. After years of experience in the beauty and spa industries, Koskas decided to use her entrepreneurial skills and passion for massage and skin therapy to open the spa of her dreams. The inspiration for The Lounge Spa came during a trip to Palm Springs, CA. Throughout her drive, she came across a billboard promoting a lounge-themed radio station. The lounge theme immediately caught Koskas’ attention as she began to plan and create her own spa with a swanky décor and unique names of services. After the two-hour drive to Palm Springs for Los Angeles, her theme, concept and mission statement fell into place. The spa would not only provide excellent massage and skin care services, but attain a hip and fun atmosphere for clients and staff, far from the typical clinical, sterile environment where the same facials and massage techniques are done. With Koskas’ passion and creativity, The Lounge Spa has become the epitome of cool. She has created an intimate atmosphere where the menus of treatments are as refreshing as cocktail drinks, of which each service is named after. Many of Hollywood’s elite have found solace with The Lounge Spa, including Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Teri Hatcher. As a Southern California native, Koskas knows that LA is home to the most celebrated “cool” and “hip” people. Most of them are found in the trendiest, most exclusive clubs and bars in town. However, unlike those exclusive places, one doesn’t have to know anyone to get into The Lounge Spa. To Koskas, every person deserves the opportunity to be a celebrity, not just the elite. It is for this reason that Koskas feels, “the red velvet ropes are open to everyone.”
